May 2009

The closure of Fog bay and the Finnis River to commercial fishermen and Barramundi netting has meant a Barramundi bonanza which has benifitted everyone fishing this area. Hopefully with the permanent closure to of this area, to be anounced within the 90 days, we will continue to see a great recreational fishery in the Northern Territory.

The people lucky enough to have fished with geoffcorry.com this season have also seen an increase on fish numbers, and the action has been frantic.

Fish are consistantly in the 70-100cm range. The average is between 80-90 cm so there are plenty of drag peeling fish to be caught in the river.

Rex Hunt fished his first ever run-off and after he had experienced the Finnis River in all it's splendor, his response was

" Geoff book me in every year for the rest of my life "

Here are a few of the pictures from the month so far.

THE YEAR THAT WAS 2008

As we finally sit and take a breath, we look back on another successful year.

After a busy 2007, 2008 was started with a well deserved holiday in Tasmania where we tackled some wild trout. Based at our mate Dave's shack in Miena we took some local advice from the owner of the Launceston Flyfishing Shop, before we headed up the hill. He sold us a fly big enough to catch a small Barra or some fiesty tarpon in the North, we thought he might have been having a joke at our expense, being main landers and all. But as he promised it proved very successful in the Great Lake.

Before long it was back to Darwin to set up for what was proving to be a solid wet season which would produce goo run-off fishing.

As in previous years we started off at Shady Camp. After a week of reasonable fishing in this busy stretch of water we decided there were bigger and better opportunities from the waters off Dundee Beach including the Finnis River.

Rex Hunt and his mates were back for their annual trip. This year was to be the celebration of their 27th year as the ‘Barra Boys.’ Last years success was going to be hard to beat, but to come just close would prove to be another blockbuster trip. And to sum it up in a couple of words from Rex’s email; “Geoff our trip was super as usual. Your professionalism and friendship are most valued.”

A word from some of our clients

Dear Geoff,

As dedicated fisho's from down south (Vic) I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your time as our guide and source of information for our trip up to the territory.
An excellent time was had by us all and with your assistance we were able to fish by ourselves as well as with you.
So many different types of fish to be caught up there, just amazing!
Thanks for the extra effort for our group. Very much appreciated.
You will be recommended by us for any one that travels up that way.
By the way I typed in barrabase as a internet search and you came up trumps.
Once I get everyone’s pics together I will send some to you for your photo gallery.

All the best to you and family.

Thanks Wazza

Geoff,

Just a quick note to say, thanks for the trip last week. The boys had a great time and are keen to return. It's pretty hard to settle back into things down here after a week away but at least I have the memories to keep me going until next time. Looking forward to catching up soon.

To all our clients old, new and to be,

We would like to thank you for supporting us in 2006. We have had some very memorable trips. We hope you leave us with your own stories to tell some great photos to show your mates and knowledge to use in your own fishing at home. Enjoy the festive season and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
